Inspirational Words about Alzheimer’s Disease by our friend, Lea

The Light in Grandma's Eyes by Lea Salafia

Lea wrote this for her Mother-in-Law, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, and this is what she saw in her eyes.   Lea read the poem  at her funeral.

This could be the feeling that many people who are incapacitated and unable to communicate verbally might have.

This is how I saw you, Mom, especially with the Grandchildren!

I see your face, I see it shine
I touch your face, I know you are mine.
I reach for you,  I kiss your hand
I love you so, can you understand?

You don’t know that I know who you are
The look on my face  seems oh so far
I remember your scent,  your voice, your smile
I wish you could know I’ve known you all the while.

I see your tears, I feel your fears.
Do not be afraid, it’s because of my years
I’ve been here oh so long,
But in my heart has been the song,
Of memories, of life, of sorrows, of love,
Of my husband, my children and of God above.

Come close to me, for I love you so,
I dread the moment when it’s time for you to go.

I held you in my arms, so close to my heart,
But the time is near when we will truly part.
I’ll see you in Heaven , where once again
We will love each other under God’s Holy Reign!
