Even beginners can learn to acrylic paint.  Now that you have the time, why not learn.

“Today is the first day of the rest of your life” was first spoken by Charles E. Dederich, Sr. in 1978. What a Great motto!

AND, Today is the perfect time to do ANYTHING that you’ve always wanted to do – any hobby or skill or to fulfill any dream you’ve had.

Everyone has a creative spirit inside and each is expressed differently according to that person’s experience. Unleashing or discovering that creativity can come early in life (for the lucky ones) or for some of us, Retirement is the perfect time to reinvent ourselves.

Many people discount their own creativity & artistic ability because they measure theirs against the work & ideas of others. We all need to believe in ourselves and our own self-worth as creative beings. In the case of artistic abilities, this is made much easier by acquiring a certain amount of technical skills. These skills are easily learned with the help of a teacher who can share their knowledge and even “shortcuts”. There are so many lessons online that Anybody can learn to paint & be creative.

Have you always wanted to play a musical instrument.  Now is the time!

Ron & I are not very musical but we did take up ballroom & line dancing when we retired 15 years ago and we really enjoy going dancing on a regular basis. It’s fun & it’s great exercise. It was after retirement that Ron began his serious love affair with cooking & entertaining. Our moms (who were good friends) started acrylic painting when they were in their 60’s and continued to enjoy it until they were almost 90.

Once you have achieved the “how-to’s” of painting, playing a musical instrument, sewing or whatever endeavor appeals to you, your own creativity can surface. Without the question, “how do I do this” or “how do I do that”, you can really start to express yourself and the true “FUN” begins.

Beginners can learn to acrylic paint if they want to.

Painting is such a relaxing and fulfilling hobby. All you need is the DESIRE, a few acrylic paints, some brushes and a canvas to get you started. Why Acrylics? Although I’ve worked & taught in almost all mediums (oils, watercolor, and acrylics, I find Acrylics to be the most versatile of all. They can be painted in an impasto (thick) style like oils or they can be painted with thinned down paints for soft washes like watercolor. Also acrylics are not restricted to painting on canvas or paper. Because when dry, they are permanent, they can be painted on almost any surface: wood, tin, fabric, glass, as well as traditional canvas and paper.

As an art teacher for over 30 years, there is nothing that delights me as much as watching a total beginner’s excitement when they paint their first “masterpiece” and actually are proud enough of their efforts to show it off. Painting will open your eyes in ways you’ve never experienced before because you will really begin to see the colors & textures of everything around you. Why not “Unleash YOUR artistic talents” and paint along with me.
