Reflections of Covid from my sister

Introduction

This Reflections of Covid  was written by my sister,  as her means of coping with the Covid pandemic and the ensuing lockdown/quarantine.  Sometimes just the writing down of your feelings, gets them off your mind and out of your head, even if, for only a little while.

Starting with the new year of 2020

When January 1,  2020 came in, I think most of us were looking forward to a new year and a new decade.   Little did we know that a pandemic, Corona virus (Covid 19),  was on our doorstep.  It originated in China and was kept underwraps for close to 2 months.  It is turning out to be as bad or worse than the flu epidemic of 1918.

Our lives changed

We live in a Continuing Care Community, which includes Independent living, Assisted living and Nursing facility.  Our staff has been very vigilant in taking measures to keep the virus from coming here.

In March, we went into complete lockdown mode and shutting down of both  the private and main dining rooms.  We were in this mode for a whole month and since, have had only gradual reopening.  We still aren’t without restrictions.

If we go out of town we have to self-quarantine for 3 days and self-isolate for 14 days after a hospital stay.  While we greatly appreciate the precautions the staff has taken, it is really beginning  to wear on us.

Our Adjustments

We have not been to our regular church services since February.  We are able to attend services though our in-house TV channel.  Our community is slowly starting to reopen.  Our main dining room is open, although due to social distancing, they are not able to accommodate as many people as before.

We appreciate all that the  staff has done to keep us safe and we will continue to shelter-in-place where decreed.

We're thankful

We pray that our country will see an end to the rioting and wanton disruption that seems to be  taking place almost everywhere.  We pray for a vaccine to be ready soon, to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Final Note from Me (Rita)

Thank you, Jacquie, for sharing your thoughts &  prayers with us.

Here in the beginning of October 2020, I think we are all feeling like Covid-19 is wearing thin on all of us. President Trump has tested positive and was  in the hospital, hopefully recovering.  We pray for him, the First Lady and everyone in government to get well and stay safe so that they can keep our country moving forward.
