Thoughts about Covid from Lea Salafia

Oh Covid, oh Covid
You think you’re here to stay
Oh Covid, oh Covid,
Not if we have it our way.
You tried to ruin our parties, our fun,
We managed, even if we had
To stay out of the sun.

Our birthdays, our anniversaries
Through trials and adversities
We managed to stay a community tightly knit,
through masks, cart parades, with a lively wit.
We laughed, we talked, we prayed, we waved,
We smiled, we encouraged, some guys never shaved.
We didn’t care, we were here for each other,
Didn’t matter if not your sister or brother.
What matters old Covid, you won’t get your way,
You won’t get us down, you won’t have your say.
We’ll continue to help each neighbor as needed
We will remain strong and willing, will not be defeated.

One day when this is over, we’ll be back where we belong,
Appreciating our lives, and oh so strong.
And those who are here, at last able to return.
Can help us light a fire where masks we can burn.
I don’t know how long we must go on this way,
But I do know thankful we are each and every day,
For what we have and where we are,
We know it’s coming, it’s not too far,
When the light of the new day,
Will finally have it’s say.
