man cooking

Yes, MEN, You can Cook and Enjoy It!!

How many times have you heard, cooking is a woman’s job?  Well, if that’s your attitude, you are missing out on a lot of relaxation and enjoyment.

You do realize don't you? Most of the top chefs in the world are
MEN

Whatever reason  it takes  to get you to start cooking, is a GOOD one!

I think a lot of men cook out necessity.  They may have lost a spouse, a significant other or for whatever reason, they are left with the responsibilty for preparing their own  meals.  Many of these men will say, I just pop a TV dinner in the micro or I just had a bowl of cereal last nite.  Even when Rita is out for the evening, I make myself  a salad, an entree and some type of vegetable.  This fills in an evening without company, relaxes me and I certainly feel 100% better than if I had just had a bowl of cereal.

I, myself had a career change.  We had a little lag in selling our home and  we were trying to move from Toledo ,Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia.  Our oldest son moved with me and he and I cooked all own meals while we were “batching it”.

Rita was handling the sale of our northern home and would come down on week-ends when she could.  We would fix her a hearty breakfast and a 5 course gourmet dinner in the evening.

After we sold our home and Rita moved down permanently, I never relinquished the cooking.  Rita is a very good cook, but I  found I  really enjoyed the relaxation of cooking.  Also, Rita really enjoyed not cooking for awhile and being served.  Win-Win!

Men, if you can READ, you Can COOK!!

It has often been said that, the quickest way to a person’s heart is thru their stomach. GUYS, in retirement, there is only SO much golf, tennis, fishing, reading, and travel you can do before it becomes a little “ho-hum”.  But, preparing food to satisfy a necessity of life, will give you more enjoyment than you can imagine.

There is another SIDE benefit that you can enjoy.  That is that your wife or partner will become the envy of many of her friends.  These gals will think she is Sooo lucky that she does not have to cook, think up meal plans & even grocery shop (which I also enjoy).

What these women  don’t understand is that you WANT to cook because you enjoy it.  At the same time, you will be giving your partner a gift that costs you nothing.  I don’t think you will regret becomming the main cook in your family or at least, the cook having the most fun!!

There are also many doors that will open to you, when word gets out that you are a good cook, especially if you are single!

Fun parties and entertaining ...

In almost every neighborhood, there is a social group or groups that entertain by having dinner parties for 6, 8 or more people.  Rita and I look at this as entertainment for our guests but also for ourselves.

Many of the dinner groups we have been involved in, pick a theme to follow.  We found that Ethnic (Cultural or by Nationality) was one of the most popular themes.  Mexican, Italian, French and Chinese were some of the ones that lend themselves to this type of party.

The way we worked it in one of our groups, the hosts chose the theme, picked the menu & shared recipies and all participated.  We even tried to wear clothing or costumes to add to the fun.

We’ll be writing  about these themed parties in more detail, later.

DINNER FOR TWO!

One of your first meals could be a nice romantic dinner for your partner.  And I mean, romantic, with low lights or candlight, soft music,  a nice bottle of wine (doesn’t have to be expensive).  She will appreciate whatever you serve.  Wait on her like she is at the most expensive restaurant in town.  Who knows, you might get lucky. lol!

Not for Men only

I give!  This is not for men only.  It’s for any new cooks that are in need of easy, well -planned meals.  So that could include women and as Rita reminded me, women are probably 80% of  the market that might be interested.

But MEN, you should learn to cook the main entree, whether beef, fish, poultry or even a vegetarian dish.  The main entree is the course that generates the most conversation.  So, if  this is your contribution to the meal, you can strut around like a proud peacoc

One thing I’ve found is that cooking with your wife or partner is a lot of fun!  You each take part of the meal (Rita gets the salad) and each have a glass of wine, while you’re at it.

So keep following us and you, too, can learn to cook simple, easy and delicious meals.  In addition you’ll have fun  serving them to your family and friends.

I’ll be adding a meal planning service, complete with recipies, shopping list and serving suggestions very soon.

If you have interest in this &/or questions, please leave us your comment.
