Anniversary Reflections in Retirement

Anniversary Reflections on 62 Years married

This lovely poem was written by our good friend, Lea Salafia.  Lea and her husband, Mike, are one of the couples she writes about, celebrating 62 years of marriage.  The other two couples are Ron & I and  other friends, Elaine & Jim.  We’ve all found each other in retirement and feel so blessed.

Lea is 81 and in the last 2 years just returned to writing poetry.  She wrote a poem for me on  my 80th birthday that I thought was really sweet and beautifully written, and I told  her so.  She had enjoyed writing poetry all her life until about 20 years ago, when she just stopped.  Now in her retirement years, she has returned to her “gift” and is making many of her friends very grateful.

Celebrations & Reflections

by Lea Salafia,  June 20, 2021

There’s six of us gathered here today
Each one so different in every possible way.
Yet here we are to celebrate each other
Neither mother nor father, sister or brother.
Brought together by God’s destiny,
By a choice given to us so freely.

Sixty-two years ago the heavens shined down upon us,
As we promised our love  and to do what we must.
To love each other, to be honest and true,
Wasn’t easy to do, what we had to do.
To suffer the agonies, the pain and the tears,
To work everyday, holding each other through disappointments & fears
At times there was laughter and such joy in our hearts,
We were committed to each other from the very start.

Look at us now, how precious the path,
That joined us together, so now we can laugh.

Sixty-two years of the ups and downs,
And now, we are wearing those beautiful crowns,
Of love, of sharing, of being with friends,
of stories so long, there are no ends.

We are blessed beyond what we ever perceived,
And have  been given more than we ever believed.

We’ve been blessed to call Six Lakes our home,
We’ll never find better, wherever we may roam.
We thank God for His Blessings  for guiding our way.
And yes we are here, here to stay.

Happy Anniversary, Sixty-two years to us all.

Elaine and Jim McAndrews
Lea and Mike Salafia

And, once again,  thank you Lea for such a beautiful tribute.  We love you.

  1. Dear Rita, thank you for your beautiful words about my poems. In actuality, they are a reflection of the wonderful people in them. Poems come from the heart, I have been blessed to have wonderful family and friends in my life. Thanks again, Lea
